Andrew MacKay who has been
caught up in the scandal about MPs expenses primarily for him and his wife between them claiming for two second homes has called a public meeting in Bracknell this Friday 22nd May at 7:00pm at the Kerith Centre in Bracknell. It is a ticket only event and you need to call 01344 868286 or e-mail
bracknellca@tory.org. The full details and map link
are here.
We are interested in knowing what questions people would like asked or views you would like expressed during this meeting. Some of us who post on Bracknell Blog are attending the meeting. We have questions of our own but are also happy to try and put questions to him from people who cannot attend the meeting.
Please let us know in the comments below and we will do our best.
There seems to be a new Tory narrative talking about primaries and recalls - ask them how this would work without fairer votes or Parliament giving powers away by devolution.
ReplyDeleteMr MacKay, please can you explain to me and the people you serve, why you should continue to serve in office as our MP?, how can you ever be trusted again to do the right thing and in moral way?, with council tax bills rising again, the economy in real trouble, people loosing their jobs and quite frankly the redevelopment of this Bracknell a joke, please tell me why you should keep your job? I for one will not vote conservative if you are the candidate.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I will do must best to ask your questions at the event.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Given that you now accept that it was morally wrong for both you and your wife to claim the 2nd home allowance for the past 8 years will immediately reimburse the taxpayer for the total amount (over £125,000)?
ReplyDeleteWell, Andrew Mackay suggested that there was majority support for him and there was a lot of positive applause when something positive was said. However there was a lot of applause whan something negative was said as well. And there were more negative comments than positive.
ReplyDeleteIt was therefore wrong of him to state as he did in the TV interview that he had 75% support. Not in the balcony he didn't.
My worry is that a vote against him personally will let in a Labour candidate. He has a 12,000 majority and usually gets slightly under 50% of all votes cast. Is that a safe position? Can he campaign in a general election while having to defend his expenses record?
From the meeting today, I can't see him staying on. It was the right thing to do but I think the people have spoken.
I agree there was some support but nothing like 9 in 10 as per his interview on get Bracknell. Mark on the Blog got to ask two of the Blog guestions so with any luck you will get your answers soon. although im not sure they were answered in full.
ReplyDeleteWhy have you never bought a house in the constituency?
ReplyDeleteI used to find Mr Mackay very helpful but since this expenses scandle he seems to do absolutely jack for people. I have people telling me I should get support from my local mp and I'm afraid that now means no support at all. I am disgusted.
