Armed forces Big Day Out in Bracknell

Saturday was a busy day in Bracknell with a parade in town for our Armed Forces and a big day out festival at South Hill Park.

This was the first ever armed forces parade of any kind in Bracknell town. It was well attended and well organised with representation from Many Standards, Veterans, Gurkhas and Cadets. There were also a number of stalls, too many to mention. Veterans were presented with veteran badges by the Mayor of Bracknell after the parade.

Also on Saturday was Bracknell’s big day out festival which is held at South Hill Park and was well attended in the sun. There were many acts and plenty of activities to get involved in at this free event that catered well for families.

All in all a great sunny Saturday in Bracknell.

I would also like to give my personal thanks to the veterans for what they did and continue to do to keep our country free. Thank you

  1. Yes, we would like to add our congratulations to the organisers of the Armed Forces Day and The Big Day Out.

They were splendid events and well-attended. It was a shame that both events were on the same day but that's life!

It was a great opportunity for Radio Bracknell to meet listeners and we look forward to meeting more when we are out and about over the summer.

  2. I'm so glad we seem to have rediscovered pride in our forces. The mantra of many now is 'We didn't agree with sending our troops to Iraq, but by heavens they did well with sub-standard equipment & lack of resources. Thank you young people and thanks to older veterans, who have been neglected for so long.' Such days must always be thanks & appreciation for individual effort, never glorification of war or an excuse to live in a perceived golden age - it wasn't, just look at news footage from the thirties right through to the early sixties. Thanks to the older veterans Britain has had a chance to improve health & housing for nearly everyone, now we must take the chance afforded us by younger veterans to finish the job.
