It appears that UKIP or someone has registered the http://www.libdem.org.uk/ as the UKIP Website.
Type this into your browser and see what result you get. If you use www.libdems.org.uk you will have the official Liberal Democrat web site. Take the 's' out and your be transported to UKIP. Interesting?
How rude!
That URL has long been owned by a non-Lib Dem. It's pointed at varying places over time, so I strongly suspect this is nowt to do with UKIP.
ReplyDeleteTo be precise, it's owned by one "Mr John Pepin", since 2002.
ReplyDeleteIt would be straightforward for the Lib Dems to reclaim the name, via nominet's dispute process.
Andrew, my understanding is that political parties do not have rights in respect of their names comparable to those held by companies or trademark holders. It probably wouldn't be as straightforward as you expect.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your replys guys. I have used your useful comments in the post above http://bracknellblog.blogspot.com/2009/12/how-rude-cybersquatter-website-address.html
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, most variations on liberaldemocrats.* are owned by cybersquatter companies, I see. Though someone has pointed http://www.liberaldemocrats.me.uk/ to our official Federal site, and Tim Prater has liberaldemocrats.info
ReplyDelete(See http://www.oa5.com/cgi-bin/isreg.pl?domain=liberaldemocrats if you want to check for yourself.)
