What do we want? A By-election! When do we want it? Now!

Mr Andrew Mackay MP has decided to step down at the next general election. His decision came soon after the meeting with his constituents. After the meeting he still claimed that most constituents supported him on the night. The mood of the meeting was infact very angry and tense.

After this event, does this really mean that Mr Mackay can operate fully as a representative of Bracknell Constituents until the general election? Is this also in the best interest of the Conservative Party?

Without continuing support of both colleagues and constituents it will surely be hard for Mr Mackay to perform his parliamentary duties effectively. Surely a by-election would now offer a way of ensuring that the interests of the constituency will be properly represented.
Electors should be allowed to express their views through a by-election. This should be held as soon as possible.

  1. Interestingly, whilst the feedback we are getting here at Radio Bracknell is overwhelmingly that Mr Mackay should resign immediately, there is general concern that a by-election now might let in an extreme candidate.

It is thought that this might come about as a result of peoples' desperate desire to bring about change.

The news of the huge golden handshakes and pensions awarded to retiring MPs (doubled when both spouses are MPs, as in the case of Bracknell) has done nothing to calm the public mood.

"Watch this space", as they say!

  2. I can understand that concern. But should democracy be cancelled out by extremist?

It must be possible to have candidates with good track records. would an extremist candidate still full foul of claiming high expenses?

  3. Labour, Tory, Lib-Dem and UKIP, are as corrupt as each other and have proven themselves to be untrustworthy. The media ignores the fact that the only party which has completely clean hands in that debacle is the BNP.

We need a party which has a Britain first policy with regard to jobs, foreign aid, health, welfare, housing, economics, manufacturing and industry.

  4. Alot of people would agree with you. However it is possible that if the BNP had an MP or MEP that they could also be corrupt. I believe still that most MP's are not corrupt and that there should be a list published of MP's who have not claimed outragous expenses
