Bracknell Tory Councillor Dismissed After Work and Pensions Investigation

I have come into some information on the Tory Councillor Denise Whitbread of the Wildridings and Central ward, Bracknell Forest Borough Council.

After some investigations I have received the following statement from the Holyport C of E Primary School Governors.

'Ms Whitbread was employed by us as a teacher until she was dismissed on 13th June 2008.
She was suspended following a benefit payment investigation by the Department of Work and Pensions and Bracknell Forest Council and subsequently dismissed.'

The following details were recently published on the web by the General Teaching Council for England here. This is repeated below;

Disciplinary order made by the GTC
Hearing of Professional Conduct Committee

On 15 December 2009 a disciplinary order was made against Ms Denise Whitbread, teacher reference number 8654912, taking immediate effect.

Ms Denise Whitbread was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct in that whilst employed as a teacher at Holyport Church of England (Aided) Primary School between September 2004 and 13 June 2008 she:

i) received Social Security Benefits to which she was not entitled

ii) failed to obey the management instruction given to her by the headteacher to inform her of developments in the Department of Work and Pensions case against her

iii) frustrated the School's enquiry into these matters by:

a) claiming she had instigated the investigation and not the Department for Work and pensions

b) withdrawing her authorisation from the DWP to answer the School's investigation queries.

Ms Denise Whitbread received a Reprimand (two years).

Holyport School comes under the territory of Windsor and Maidenhead Council so its interesting to discover that Bracknell forest Council were involved in this investigation.

She was dissmissed in June 2008 and yet the council appear to of taken no puplic action. I expect to see a statement from the Bracknell Forest Council on this subject in the local press soon. I also wonder why no action has been forth coming from the council and what will happen to her future position on the council

  1. Bracknell local councillor claims tax-payers' money she is not entitled to...

"That's my gal" says Andrew Mackay.

  2. If you are married or young, make sure to ask the pension transfer advice. Depending on the country you are located, they are transferred to other laws on pensions.

  3. Another Tory politician in Bracknell stealing from the taxpayer meanwhile the lachrymose BrownClown robs everyone in the UK of their money. Time for a change indeed, vote anyone but Tory or Liebour at the next election.

  4. Another Tory with her nose in the trough. If they had any shred of decency they would insist she stands down, but the tories are all at it so why would they? With so little opposition in Bracknell Forest Council they think they can do as they like.

  6. The local press article quoted above delves into the detail a bit more.

I suggest that it may be a good idea to read the article before commenting further.

The background to this is that The GTC after agreement with Dee accepted an admission of poor judgment and she was awarded their lowest form of censure.
    Dee says:
"By agreement with the GTC I received the absolute minimum admonishment – they considered giving me nothing at all"

It is unfortunate that the GTC published an inaccurate summary of their decision. This is to be rectified.
The rest is a private matter between her and her employer.

  7. Do you not think our elected leaders should be setting an example? Although this may be a private matter, what message does it send to the people of Bracknell?

  8. Monday Swimmer. First of all you need to be in possession of the full facts.
Yes elected leaders should be setting a good example. I would not prejudge this case until the full circumstances have come to light.
People do have disputes with employers over all sorts of things. I have had trouble myself before. The matter has been settled, and all sides agreed in the actions take. That was a private dispute that myself and employer had. Indeed we both agreed not to disclose any more detail to anyone else.
People do have private as well as public lives.

Hello again Alvin, interesting to see you attempting defending the indefensible, though from a Tory this is no where near surprising. Perhaps the Tory amnesia can be alleviated by reminding everyone of the GTC FINDINGS:

    i) received Social Security Benefits to which she was not entitled
ii) failed to obey the management instruction given to her by the headteacher to inform her of developments in the Department of Work and Pensions case against her
iii) frustrated the School's enquiry into these matters by:

    a) claiming she had instigated the investigation and not the Department for Work and pensions
    b) withdrawing her authorisation from the DWP to answer the School's investigation queries.

Just because the GTC gave a light sentence on this occasion, this isn't necessarily to their credit either, and in no way dilutes their findings.

What on earth do you mean by "People do have disputes with employers over all sorts of things. I have had trouble myself before." ?

She was DISMISSED from her school, and on legitimate grounds otherwise there would have been an action against the school or local authority

Don't try & fob this off.

  13. Alvin, I always appreciate your comments and you made a very good rebuttal of my blog on Phillip Lee. However I understand you wanting to defend a fellow Troy Councillor, but dont you think that sometimes its best not to be party political.

I agree that if you have an issue with an employer than that does not impact on your duties as a councillor in many cases. However this was an investigation by the Department of Work and Pensions and Bracknell Forest Council not by the school. Plus after this investigation after 'frustrated the School's enquiry' she was dismissed. Does this not bring into question some question about holding office in Bracknell? Personally I think it does.

  14. I know Dee on a personal level probably more than I know her on a political level. I would like to leave it at that for now as I do not want to breach her privacy.

I can only but hope that the Bracknell electorate are reading this!

You get what you vote for, is all I can say.

you should never judge a book by its cover, this has a very strong smell about it, and the good people of Bracknell deserve better. not another Tory cheat in office. The fair and honest thing would be to resign

    ReplyDelete
  17. its not right that a person who misleads her employers should be aloud to represent honest people.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ms. Whitbread lied about claiming the benefits that she was not entitled too. she is obviously dishonest with no respect for her superiors or the tax payer.

The tories should dismiss her immediately if they want to remain semi-credible.

  20. More and more people are happy to look around for the best deals and switch their credit cards and mortgages to save money, but when it comes to switching their pension to get the best deal, very few people have done so. Are you one of those people?

  21. She should go and can they get rid of Tory councilor Mary Ballin too. She has had enough special allowances from Bracknell in her many years as a councilor ( another one who like Mackay does not deign to actually live in Bracknell )
Her arrogant and rude behavior is unbecoming anywhere but especially so in someone who is supposedly working for the people of Bracknell.

  22. There is a difference between the word claim and recieve. In this case it implies money was recieved and possibly by mistake hence the GTC words 'no dishonesty' was alleged....dont you think it could just be another DWP Government mess / remember Tax credits overpayments, lost CD discs in taxis with millions of names on them etc???? Around that time all sorts of things were being lost by the Child Benefits etc.How do you know if this was fair dismissal in the first place? I think it was just published to make political points

  25. look at the facts
she disrupted her managers investigation of the indecent and so she could stay on full pay for as long as possible while being at home
all right for some! even if it was a mistake she was sacked for stopping the investigation which are legal grounds
